Good News / Bad News
Hello Everyone.
This is a newsletter mailing sent out to all of my clients to give everyone a heads up on the inner workings of Creative Compulsions. I have both good news and bad news to announce regarding the past, the present, and the future of Creative Compulsions. Good news is short and sweet, so I will start with that.
Good News:
The end of my fiscal year was January 1. At that time, my sales over last year had increased by almost 1500%. Yes, 1500%. This is partly due to my dedication to making this work, putting in as much effort as I can in marketing my business and doing everything I can to make and keep my clients. In is also due to incredible luck in gaining some great clients (you) many of which who give me repeated work and positive referrals. Thanks! It has been an incredible year with a lot of new clients and lots of new work. Looking at the year that has passed (and the first few months of this year) there is no doubt this business is a success and will continue to be a success for as long as I continue to work at it.
Bad News:
Well, the bad news is a tie in with the good news. I have been putting so much time and effort into making my business a success that I have been neglecting other areas of my life. Most importantly, I have been putting my family aside. Despite being no more that 10 feet from my son when I work, I am almost an absentee father because I am so focus on other things. This is a plight with so many small business owners I am sure. They put everything into the business and lose touch with everything and everyone else. That is not what I wanted at all.
My original reason for starting Creative Compulsions was because I love doing this kind of work, and I always have ideas for new designs floating around in head. This business was supposed to be my creative outlet while adding a small supplement to my income. However it has begun to be more than that. Success is supposed to be a good thing, and may it is for this business as well, but I need to find a better balance before I lose everything.
I have decided to do 3 things.
1) Not accepting any new clients for at least a few months. This does not mean I will not accept new projects, just not accepting new clients. All my clients I am working with now, is all I want. I will continue to work on all existing projects and I will work on new projects for you as well. So rest assured, this will not affect you in anyway. It just means I will be able to manage my time better.
2) I will go by what I originally thought out, and stated on my site. My original plan was to have a 10 day window for design work. Up until now I rarely make it to 5 days before submitting designs to clients. I am going to stick to this rule as much as possible. This way I can better balance my time and ensure I am giving my clients my best work. This will effect almost everyone and I am sorry, but it is a needed step.
3) Days / hours will change. Starting now, I will no longer offer any email or IM support on Saturdays. I may do some work behind the scenes but I will be unavailable to talk/chat/email. The rest of the week, I will reply to most emails between 8 am and 3 pm within a couple of hours. After this time I will usually reply the following day.
For the most part, this will affect all of my clients. Hopefully not in a bad way.
Hosting clients, the only thing that will affect you is the email support. Nothing else will change.
For clients whose sites I maintain, this will mean changes will likely get done in within 24 hours instead of within a couple of hours.
For design clients, this means all design work will be pushed to 10 days instead of 4-7. This includes the building of sites, instead of 1-7 day turnaround, it will be 10 days.
Hopefully these changes are not too dramatic, and hopefully this will not affect any of you in a negative way. These are changes I feel are needed in order to continue on with this business, while still keeping my family in tact.
If you have any questions about any of this, please reply to this email and I will answer you as best I can.
Thanks.
Myles
