Vacation planning for Canadians

Summer is FAST approaching this Canadians’ locale and that means vacation planning. But not just any vacation planning, planning for all things summer. Everything you want to do and everything you need to do, to enjoy what little summer there will be before getting hit with another winter slump a couple months later.

Summer is far to short lived to go in unprepared. Sadly, many of us (myself explicitly included) don’t plan ahead and attempt to live for the moment. Which usually ends up being last minute dashes to the lake or beach, and too much time thinking about what you could do, while doing nothing you want to do. Bummer.

Being April 1st, and after noon this is no joke, just foresight. Plan ahead for all things you want to do, and make a date to do them. If you plan ahead, you won’t miss out. I don’t mean plan to cut the grass or anything (but you probably have to do that anyway, as grass does grow), but plan the fun things, and even the non fun things you keep meaning to get to.

Can’t think of anything?

How about these 10 things to do on your summer vacation:

Fun things to do on your summer vacation:

  1. Go camping with your son.
  2. Bike to the park a few evenings a week.
  3. Play some Wii Sports when the weather is not perfect.
  4. Restore an old car.
  5. Brew your own beer.

Useful things to do on your summer vacation (but not as fun):

  1. Re-shingle your garage.
  2. Repair your living room ceiling.
  3. Build a shelf in your bathroom (your toothbrush will thank-you).
  4. Clean out the basement.
  5. Plant a garden AND maintain it (weeds know when your sleeping).

Procrastination Alert!

When will you have time to do all that?

Simple. You make the time. Plan ahead, like now, and you have no excuse not to have the time to do everything you want to do with your summer vacation.

But dude, I’m not a kid, I don’t get summer vacation!

DUDE!. MINI-VACATIONS. No need to book weeks off work. You can do it all in the evenings and on weekends. Have your cake and eat it too (whatever that means).

Bottom line?

Stop dreaming. Start doing.

Addicted to SPAM? NoooooooOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Seems a lot of my blogging revolves around spam. So what’s one more?

If anyone feels I am no responding to emails, or wonder why I am not replying quickly, it is simply due to spam. Not sure what happened, but wow… I have been flooded with spam for days.

By flooded, I mean FLOODED! I can barely even open my email app without it freezing up my computer there is so much crap to download.

inbox.jpg

I deleted a several hundred yesterday, around 1200 this morning and throughout the day, and 5 hours later that was what I got in my inbox. 99.9999% spam.

And it does not stop there. Wait, there’s more. Thats right, I said more. All valid email coming to me, is delayed. Why delayed? Because of spam. There is a huge backlog on my email server it cannot deliver it all at once. Some emails are 5 hours delayed, others are 36 hours delayed.

What does that mean? It means it could be days before I finally get to reading and replying to real emails. But I am doing my best to read and reply to the valid emails as soon as I see them, sorry for the delays.

To recap the general statement of several of my posts:
I HATE SPAM!!!

Facebook for business?

I did not join Facebook until a few months ago.I avoided it because I knew what it was, but could not think of any reason for me to use the service. Up until a few months ago, I could not think of anyone I wanted to reconnect with.

Then it happened. I was chatting about the past and things started coming up in conversation like “What ever happened to…”. You know those questions right? Well, Facebook can answer many of those questions, and open many more. So I joined, and “reconnected”.

I reconnected for a few weeks then got bored of it. Did not take long to burn through all my burning questions from days gone by. The fire died down, and now all I do is log in from time to time to mostly play the Facebook Apps. Love the movie trivia.

I had a new friend request today, so I logged in and did my thing. But before logging off, I clicked a link and was brought to a business sign up page. I knew there were bands, artists, and business etc on Facebook along with all the personal stuff, but I never thought about adding my own. I originally intended to keep Facebook personal, and not intertwine my business with it.

Now I realize I was an idiot. Facebook is wicked for personal stuff. But just as good for business marketing. Super simple to throw up a business page. In 15 minutes I had a page created with 3 of my portfolios added. Simple and a great way to reach more people with my work. Great idea.

Now I will be logging to Facebook more often, for more than a quick game.
